Job Description

The exciting and new Creative Media Programme starts November 2014 and is based with Sharks' Think Tank at Sheaf Training, Sheffield 5.  You will have opportunity get involved with a range of creative media activities to enable you to develop your skills. In the first year, units of work will centre around topics including digital photography, producing video and audio products, looking at desktop publishing and also working on your own project. The delivery of the units will be supported by partners from the business community and you will work closely with The Sheffield Sharks Basketball Club.  By working in partnership with sporting organisations this provides an excellent opportunity for you to understand how the work that you are doing applies in a working environment.

Training:  The core qualification is a BTEC Level 1 diploma in Creative Media Production. In addition, you can work on Functional Skills in maths and English.  You will also have weekly enrichment sessions where you will have the chance to choose a range of activities over the course of the programme.  To further embed the skills which you are developing, you will also be able to attend employability sessions which will provide you with the opportunity to gain Level 1 City and Guilds qualifications in enterprise and healthy lifestyles.

Hours:  14 hours/week Tues, Wed & Thurs, with additional input for information and guidance, pastoral support and work experience opportunities.  This is a 2 year programme.

Incentives: All students would be eligible for a bus pass and may be entitled to additional support through bursary funding if eligible.

Job Description

Build your own full time programme around Music and ICT. With a music certificate at the core and Maths and English provided (if you need it), you can pick either a music technology or music performance based programme. The choice is yours! Music technology units include sequencing and sampling, audio recording, dance music production and DJ skills. Performing arts includes preparing, developing and taking part in a performance. You could also choose film making too!

There are options for full time study for one year or up to three years in our industry standard facilities. We will guide you through regular tutorials and sessions so that you can progress with skills, confidence and experience to level 3 Diplomas or stand out from the crowd and get that first step on the employment ladder. Work experience and ICT enrichment activities are also provided as part of the programme.

Music Technology

Develop skills used by top record producers, DJs and artists and have the opportunity to

complete industry standard music qualifications –

NCFE Entry Level Award in Performance Skills

NCFE Level 1 Introductory Award in Music Technology including Sequencing and Recording

NCFE Level 1 Award in Music Technology including DJ Skills

NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Music Technology including Dance Music Production

NCFE Level 2 Extended Certificate in Music Technology including Sound Effects for Film

NCFE Level 2 Performance Skills in Music

IT

Enjoy a series of ICT enrichment activities centred around app development, design, and exciting blue screen video production.

Training:  Will work towards achieving one main qualification, plus Functional Skills in Maths and English (if you don't have a GCSE grade C or above in Maths or English), ICT optional.  Will have the opportunity to gain work experience and develop practical skills for the work place.

Hours:  Usually around 3 days per week.  The duration of the programme is approximately 600 guided learning hours which is 1 academic year.

Incentives:  Some learners may be able to access bursary funding, if eligible.

Job Description

Are you 16 - 18 and want to gain new skills in arts/or associated trades or Social Enterprise leadership?  The Moving Forward: programme could be for you.  You'll learn about CV writing, letter writing and how to apply for a job or get into education. You will have the chance to try out lots of different types of art forms such as street dance, break dancing, acting, media, singing, rapping, film making, set design and much more!  You will work with other people, develop your confidence, work out what you want to do, develop your leadership skills and gain a qualification and even explore a business idea that will benefit the community around you. If you are not interested directly in an art form, you can use an art form such as film making to find out more about a possible career path, or focus more on the Social Enterprise Business qualification. More than anything, this course is aimed to develop you in your creativity, and in turn increase your confidence and self esteem, ready to move forward in employment or education.


Training:  Practical programme which will have a focus on working with and in the local community.  You will develop a CV and a personal development plan which will be an important tool to help you to progress into education or employment.  You will achieve an Award in the Arts (Arts Award) Qualification or a Social Enterprise Qualification (or both if you want). Functional Skills in maths and English.

Hours:   3 days/week (Tues, Wed, Thurs) min of around 10 weeks up to a year.

Incentives:  Unpaid.  Will look at refunding bus fares on a case by case basis.     

Job Requirements

Must be 16 - 18, be interested in gaining new skills or simply just need a safe environment to get back on track with their life. Must not be currently in education, employment or training. Aimed at young people city wide.

Job Description

The Study Programme with SHIFT offers quality vocational digital media training in Media Production including Web Design, Photography and Graphic Design up to Level 3.  SHIFT now also offer Games Design to Level 2.  You can have the chance to try some taster tasks before deciding what you would like to focus on.  You can work on your Functional English, Maths and ICT, gain preparation for work skills, have planned individual learning supported by group and tutorials and gain ongoing information, advice and guidance.  

Traineeships (option within the Study Programme)

Work preparation for students assessed at pre-apprenticeship level and based on your individual career progression aims. Traineeships can help you to gain the experience required to move into employment, apprenticeships or vocational further education.  Work experience can last between 6 weeks to 5 months.

Training:  Study programme - Range of qualifications are available including Level 1 & 2 in Interactive Media. Level 2 in Animation. Level 1 & 2 in Photography. Level 1 & 2 Graphic Design. Level 2 Moving Image Production. Level 2 in Art and Design.  Games Design Level 2, Level 1 & 2 Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT, Level 1& 2. Employability Skills Level 1 & 2.  GSCEs available in Maths and English from October 2014.

Traineeships – Students can improve their GCSE English and Maths and Interactive Media qualifications up to level 3. 

Hours:  16 – 19 hours/week rising up to 30 hours/week if on a work placement or Traineeships.  Duration of Study Programme – around 1 academic year (540 - 600 guided learning hours).  Traineeships – maximum of 5 months in duration.

Incentives:  Concessionary bus pass provided & travel expenses to and from SHIFT.   Some learners may be entitled to 16 – 19 Bursary.

Functional Skills Maths Entry 1 to Level 1, Award / Certificate / Diploma in Employability and Personal Development.

Hours:  Minimum 13 hours per week.  Duration is equivalent to 1 academic year.

Incentives:  Eligible learners can apply to the Bursary fund.  Rates vary depending on individual circumstances. All 16-18 year old learners can apply for a concessionary 70p per trip bus pass.

DECAT offer Music Industry and Motor Vehicle training, personal and social development skills with chance to achieve a range of qualifications.   .  Opportunities are available in the following areas:

Music Industry

Study Programme

- Music Technology Award Level 1 - 2           NCFE

- Music Technology Certificate Level 1 - 2     NCFE

- Pod Casting Level Level 1 – 2                      NCFE

- Sound Engineering Entry Level  to level 2   NCFE

- Music Performance Entry Level to Level 2  NCFE

- DJ Performance Entry Level to Level 1      NCFE

- Music Technology BTEC National Diploma Level 2 and 3 in association with Rotherham Art & Technology College.

 You will have the opportunity to choose which units you study and can gain hands on experience within the DECAT studios.  You can develop learn and develop your skills in one or several of the following areas:-

DJ skills – gain an introduction to your sound mixing skills in one of 3 DJing suites. Sound Engineering – gain an introduction to using multi-track recording using a portastudio and using a 32 track mixing desk and hard disk recorder.

Music performance - covering practical instrumentation and performance techniques, playing as a group or as a solo artist.

Music Technology – develop new skills in computer based music production including sequencing, using Reason 2.5, Cubase SL/SX digital audio recording and editing, midi and sound synthesis.

Decat also offer…

Traineeships & Internships – gain work experience within the music and creative industry.

Apprenticeships Music Industry Apprenticeships – Diploma Level 3 in Music Industry.

 

Motor Vehicle

Study Programme

- Basic Motor Vehicle Maintenance Award and Certificate - this will offer a good introduction to motor vehicle including motor vehicle maintenance, welding fabrication, body work, vehicle diagnostics and vehicle electricals.  You will be able to gain hands on experience of rebuilding old cars.

- IMI L2 Motor Vehicle Maintenance

- IMI Certificate

As part of all Study Programme you will also work towards

- Employability Skills Level 1 to Level 2 (NCFE)

- ICT Entry Level 1 & 2 (NCFE)

- English and Maths Level 1 & 2 (NCFE)

Hours:  Study Programmes - min of 16 hours per week (Mon, Tues, Wed, and Thurs).  Programmes are for 500 guided learning hours, which is the equivalent to an academic year. 

Apprenticeships minimum of 30 hours/week.  Traineeships and Internships – hours to be confirmed.

Incentives: Bursary available for eligible learners. If you are employed as an Apprentice you will receive a minimum of £2.73/hour.

Job Requirements

16 – 18 and no qualifications or previous experience are required for Study Programme. Traineeships and Apprenticeships requirements may vary – check with DECAT.

19 – 24 for Internships.
