Job Description

To work at a nursery located in Sheffield 11. The nursery provides day care for 0 – 5 year olds.  Duties will include:

- Ensuring the safety and well-being of children.

- Providing a loving, secure, warm, understanding yet disciplined environment.

- To give love and confidence to each child or baby enabling parents both to leave and to collect a willing, happy child without any upset at the beginning and the end of the session.

- To portray confidence, offer friendliness, give advice and assurance to parents, in a professional manner, when they bring their child or baby to Nursery and also at the end of the day in order parents are satisfied that nursery has been the next best place to home.

- To share responsibility for providing the highest standard of day care and education for young children and babies with other staff members.

-  To work as part of a busy team.

-  To be responsible as part of that team for writing and reviewing procedures of the children’s day-to-day activities and needs in the nursery.

-  To introduce toilet training to each child at the right stage of development, following written procedures.

-  To supervise children/babies during meal and snack times, promoting good table manners and etiquette.

-  To inform senior staff if any everyday materials need to be ordered, following written procedures for monitoring and requesting resources.

-  To introduce learning materials and developing skills, reading stories and singing rhymes and song.

-  To plan, prepare, organise and evaluate activities both inside and outside that are appropriate to the children’s stage of development.

-  To communicate with the Nursery Manager, on children’s progress and discuss health matters on a regular basis.

-  To record and monitor children’s development.

-  To report, promptly, to the Nursery Manager on any matters of concern regarding children’s welfare or any difficult or inappropriate behaviour by the children.

-  To enter any accidents in the accident book. To enter any incident in the Non Accidental Injury Book.

-  To be familiar with the nursery’s Health and Safety policy, Equal Opportunities policy special Educational Needs policy and Child Protection policy.

-  To encourage a positive attitude when dealing with behaviour problems, assessing each incident with understanding, offering children support and guidance.

-  To insist on good manners, respect, kindness to one another, good speech and acceptable behaviour.

-  To engage in all domestic duties entailed in keeping the nursery clean and tidy and in cooking where required.  Thereby ensuring a hygienic and safe environment.

-  To be responsible for the safety and cleanliness of all toys and nursery equipment, withdrawing those in need of repair.

-  To promote the safety of children at all times and provide first-aid treatment and health care.

Training:  Advanced Level Apprenticeship Children and Young People’s Workforce.  Level 2 Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT.  The learning provider is Learndirect.

Hours:  5 days per week.  30 – 40 hours per week.

Pay:  £2.73/hour (minimum of £81.90/week based on 30 hours).

Job Requirements

Duties & Responsibilities:

The programme will include job search and a work experience placement that is designed to support learners into employment or apprenticeship opportunities. The learner will receive support and guidance from an Employment Engagement Officer who will source an appropriate work placement.   Additional job seeking support will be provided such as:  CV completion, cover letters, application support, access to internet/email, interview preparation plus advice and guidance throughout the programme.  CTS are located in Sheffield city centre.

Training: Vocational qualifications are offered in a range of subject areas: 

Level 1 Certificate in Health and Social Care

Level 1 Certificate in Public Services*

Level 1 Certificate Employability and Personal Development

Level 1 Certificate in Personal and Social Development.

Learners who do not have a GCSE A*-C in English and Maths to work towards a Functional Skill qualification in English and Maths at the right level for the learner (up to Level 2).  Functional skills qualifications are available in:  English (Entry 1 – Level 2), Maths (Entry 1 – Level 2), ICT (Entry 3 – Level 2) and ESOL (Entry 1 – Entry 3).

Job Description

Care workers provide practical assistance and personal care services to individuals in their own home, helping them to get the most out of life.  The organisation operates in the following areas of Sheffield

- Chapeltown, High Green, Burn Cross

- Fir Vale, Burngreave, Pitsmoor, Firth Park

- Handsworth, Richmond, Stradbroke

- Woodhouse, Beighton, Hackenthorpe, Halfway, Waterthorpe, Mosborough


Training: 5 day induction programme and shadow training.

Hours:  Hours are worked in shifts from 7am until 10pm, 7 days a week. Therefore they have various shifts available – full time, part time, evenings, weekends. 

Pay:  £7.50ph weekdays and £8.00ph weekends, plus enhancements for bank holidays and mileage paid.

 

Job Requirements

Must be 18+ due to the personal care aspect of the job.  Should have access to your own transport and be able to drive due to the nature of the job.  Although experience is welcomed, if you do not come from a care background the organisation will support you in the training you will need. Must have a friendly, caring approach and enjoy working with people, have a genuine desire to provide quality care, excellent communication skills, be reliable and have a flexible approach.
