Job Description

To work at a unisex hair salon, located in Wath Upon Dearne, S63.  Duties will include customer service, housekeeping, shampooing, conditioning, neutralising and blow drying. 

Training:  Apprenticeship in Hairdressing.  The learning provider is Dimensions Training Solutions.

Hours:  5 days/week, will include Sat and a late night. No more than 40 hours/week.  Earliest start is likely to be 8.50am and late night finish of 9pm.
 
Pay:  £2.73/hour.

Job Description

Will be based at a stylish and modern salon with a range of clientele, located in Sheffield 6.  Will be expected to work hard to get good results and develop good relationships with clients and be aware of changing fashion trends, new looks and popular products. Key tasks will be to greet and meet clients, assist the stylists, reception duties including answering the phone and making client appointments. General housekeeping throughout the day to ensure the salon is always welcoming to the client. Practical skills such as shampooing, rinsing off colours, conditioning treatments, blow drying and eventually colouring and cutting will be incorporated into the training sessions and as part of the induction training period as well as on going throughout the duration of the apprenticeship. 


Training:  You will be working towards your NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing Intermediate Level Apprenticeship.  The learning provider is W Academy. Once you have completed your NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing you will become a qualified stylist. You will then have the opportunity to continue learning and further develop your skills by completing the NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing or NVQ Level 2 Barbering. This could lead to a very rewarding career within the hairdressing sector at various levels.

Hours: Minimum of 30 hours/week.  5 days/week, including Sat

Pay:  £2.73/hour (£81.90/week).

Job Requirements

No formal qualifications are required but 5 GCSE (or equivalent) grades A-C could be beneficial. Ability to communicate with clients in a professional but friendly manner. Should be energetic, driven and positive with a pleasant personality. Enthusiasm and commitment to the work based learning route. Creative flair with an eye to detail. Punctual, reliable and excellent customer service skills. Job task planning and organising skills with the ability to work with others.

Study Programmes are designed to provide you with skills employers need and help you progress into employment with training, an Apprenticeship or further training. Enrolment dates available now to start you on the road to learn a living.  LifeSkills offer a range of Study Programme options -

Nail & Beauty will help you to gain a range of ‘hands on’ nail and beauty related skills. 

Customer Service skills are a requirement of any employee whether working in a shop, warehouse, building site or office.

Business Enterprise will equip you with the skills to start your own business. You’ll cover understanding the opportunities and risks in running a business, how to get help and support in business and how to manage money.  You’ll also continue to develop your Functional Skills in English, maths and ICT.

A LifeSkills Study Programme will help you gain and develop these skills either as a stepping stone into your chosen career or to help you make an informed decision on your future career either way a LifeSkills course is an ideal way for you to learn a living.

Training:  Study Programmes are available in Customer Service Level 1, Nail & Beauty at Level 1 / Level 2 and Business Enterprise Level 2 Award.  You can also have the chance to gain qualifications from Entry Level up to Level 2 in Functional Skills in maths, English and ICT.   CCSE's in maths and English are available for learners who have gained a D at GCSE or if you already have Level 2 Functional Skills.

Hours:  16 hours/week (4 x half days/week), duration is approximately 30 - 35 weeks. 

Incentives:  If you are 16-18 years of age, you could also receive an attendance bonus of up to £40 a month for 100% attendance, plus you get all your travel expenses paid for the duration of the course.  Some learners may be eligible for Bursary.
