The Kickstart Scheme provides funding to employers to create job placements for 16 to 24 year olds on Universal Credit, and is part of the UK Government’s Plan for Jobs. Its purpose is to mitigate the devastating impact the Coronavirus pandemic has had on businesses and youth employment.
Between November 2020 and December 2021 UK employers can hire a young person with their wages fully funded for six months. There is no limit to the number of employees an employer may take on through the scheme, and £1500 is provided to fund training and support.
There is no obligation to offer permanent employment after the six-month period, meaning Kickstart offers businesses value and flexibility.
Employers are expected to provide meaningful employment and development opportunities for their new employees. Evidence must be provided to demonstrate the following on Kickstart applications:

Monthly check-in calls from qualified wellbeing practitioners, part of our award winning mental health and wellbeing team, and two practitioner-led workshops to train participants to manage their wellbeing effectively throughout their Kickstart journeys.
