The Lord Mayor’s Young Citizen’s Award

The Lord Mayor’s Young Citizen’s Award is a way of rewarding young people for making positive use of their time.

It is a flexible award of challenges encouraging community involvement, fitness, new skill development and adventure. There are two levels which show progression in the activities and is typically delivered to ages 11-13.

Participants complete a log book and get it signed by their leader to receive an enamel badge and a certificate signed and presented by The Lord Mayor of Sheffield.

Who can take part?

The award is suitable for any young person living in Sheffield and can be delivered in schools and out of school settings, special schools, youth centres, secure units or by community groups.

What does the award involve?

The award involves undertaking 4 challenges that will take a minimum of 12 weeks to complete. The challenges can be decided by leaders and participants. The 4 challenges are volunteering, a physical challenge, developing a skill and undertaking an adventure.

These sections can be done in any order and should be carried out on a weekly basis taking a minimum of one hour per week.

How much will it cost?

The cost is £20.00 per participant which covers administration of the award, log book, certificate, enamel badge and a worker visiting your organisation and inviting The Lord Mayor to your presentation event.

Who can authorise an award?

A leader will be nominated from each organisation to sign off challenges. Sheffield Operating Authority alongside The Lord Mayor’s Office will authorise awards and attend presentations.
