This is a unique opportunity offering the chance to work on a heritage building and learn about heritage skills; the renovation of such a prestigious building, Wentworth Woodhouse, a Grade 1 country house.  The  Apprentice Stone Mason will learn how to build stone walls or fit cladding using mortar and specialist fixings and also repair damaged stonework.

 

Requirements:  Minimum of Level 2 or equivalent in Brickwork / Masonry.

Demonstrate a passion and knowledge of the role.

Have a keen and enthusiastic manner.

Have a desire to work in the construction industry and extend your skills to this craft.

Awareness of health and safety

Craft skills/work experience.

A good head for heights.

Able to cope with all the practical aspects of the work.

Good co-ordination and practical skills to use tools.

 

Training:  Level 3 Heritage Skills (Stone Masonry).  The successful candidate will attend college to gain NVQ 3 or equivalent qualification on a block release basis.  This will be for 5 days each month and due to the location of the college (Heritage Craft Alliance in North Yorkshire) will probably involve overnight stays within the college.

 

Hours:  39 hours/week.

 

Pay:  £169.10 per week.
