Job Shop Volunteer

Sheffield Futures

Sheffield Futures run an open forum Job Shop each day of the week, providing careers advice and support for local people. From Monday – Wednesday these sessions are held for adults, while the Thursday and Friday sessions are for young people. During these sessions, service users drop in and either meet with a Careers Adviser or use one of the computers available to them.

The Job Shop runs from 10am – 1pm each day and offers support to those looking to write a brand new CV, change an existing CV or search for jobs and gain careers advice.

The role of a volunteer would be to support this service and our service users who attend, through shadowing in meetings or aiding people on the computers to search and apply for jobs. An extra pair of hands during the Job Shop is always appreciated as it can often get quite busy! We ask for a commitment of one session a week, if possible.

The skills required are a general understanding of careers advice and guidance, competent IT skills and an ability to interact and empathise with members of the public.

If you’re 18 – 25 you can accredit your time spent volunteering with us to the Duke of Edinburgh Award. All you need to do is a minimum of 1 hour of volunteering a week. You can start from scratch or, if you have already started the award in previous years, you can continue it here and collect your certificate! Major employers often guarantee an interview with a DofE award on your CV too.
