Residential Foundation Course level 1 Diploma in Work Based Racecourse Care: Spend 12 weeks residential at the National Horseracing College (NHC) and a further 6 weeks on work experience. The course is open to complete beginners with no previous experience with horses and prepares learners for work in the racing industry. During this initial period of training learners will undertake such activities as carrying out yard duties, looking after racehorses, riding out, attending lectures and studying.

Requirements: You need to have ambition, motivation & a good general level of fitness. You must enjoy working outdoors. No previous experience or formal qualifications are required.

Training: During initial 18 week Traineeship training will gain a Level 1 Diploma in Work Based Racehorse Care, Functional Skills Maths & English, Emergency First Aid Certificate, L3 Award in the principles of transporting horses by road on short journeys, L1 Award introduction to horse racing industry, Life skills including cooking, nutrition, fitness, looking after your money and talks from speakers from NARS and Racing Welfare. In addition learners also improve their self-esteem, independence, self-confidence and resilience.

Hours:  12 week full time residential course to start.  Work experience hours may vary.

Additional information: Usually during the first 12 weeks accommodation & food are provided at a charge. Some learners will be eligible for a bursary.
