The traineeship will involve a work placement with a small, friendly barber’s shop located in Sheffield 9, which specialises in men’s haircuts, shaves and bespoke hairstyles.  You will assist with day to day tasks including meeting and greeting clients, customer service, shampooing, various haircuts using both scissors and clippers, grooming beards, making refreshments and housekeeping.


Requirements:  Must be aged 16 to 19, not have previously completed a traineeship.  Must not currently hold any qualification at Level 3 or above. Must not be in employment/training at another provider at the start of the CTS traineeship.  Creative, artistic with good attention to detail.  Keen to start a career in the barbering industry.  Friendly, approachable, presentable, reliable and trustworthy.


Training: You will attend a work placement for 3 days per week (6 hours per day). The work placement will provide you with the skills, training and knowledge to help you start your career in the barbering industry.  You will attend the centre 1 day per week for sector specific training, employability, and other job search activities.  You will also be given the opportunity to work towards English and maths Functional Skills (if you do not already hold grade C/4 or above at GCSE or equivalent level).


Hours: 3 days/week with the employer, plus 1 day/week at CTS if you need to work on your maths and/or English.  Expected duration is around 12 weeks.

Incentives:  Unpaid, CTS will cover your bus fares. Bursary available for eligible learners.
