We are offering this exciting opportunity, as a part of the Department of Work and Pensions’ Kickstart scheme, for two Assistant Youth Workers (aged 18 to 24) to join our Youth Sheffield service for a fixed term period of six months. We believe in the power of high-quality youth work to improve lives, keep young people safe and help them thrive. If you have an understanding of the issues young people face and the enthusiasm and experience to work with those most in need, we want to hear from you.

The Role

As a Kickstart Assistant Youth Worker, you will be involved in the development of programmes that reflect the needs of young people in the local area and engage them in decision making support. You will work with our Youth Workers to support the delivery of positive planned programmes, activities and interventions in universal/open access and targeted settings, with an emphasis on supporting vulnerable or disadvantaged young people. Through your work you will promote inclusion, equity and young people’s interests and wellbeing.

This post requires a commitment to continuous professional development of knowledge and skills to improve service delivery through attendance at team meetings and relevant training events. As a position on the Kickstart programme, the post holder would be required to engage with Sheffield Futures’ package of employability training, careers guidance and wellbeing support.

The successful candidates will have experience of working face-to-face with young people and building positive relationships, from previous employment or voluntary work. You will demonstrate a clear understanding of the issues that face young people and their families for varying backgrounds, and have good interpersonal, communication and time management skills. You will also have the ability to communicate with groups of young people displaying challenging and/or risk taking behaviour.
