Referrals for Young People (CYT)

Community Youth Teams (CYTs) support young people aged 10-18 who need extra support to help them make the most of their lives.

We aim to steer young people away from crime and anti-social behaviour, helping them to stay in school and post-16 education, work or training. Much of our work is aimed at helping young people to make the right choices and avoid behaviour that could harm them and their communities, such as drug or alcohol misuse, sexual exploitation or teenage pregnancy.

We also work with young people to build self belief and confidence and make sure they have all the skills and information they need to cope with the ups and downs of life. This is done by providing:

  • One-to-one support
  • Group work programmes
  • Centre based and detached youth work in communities

If you would like to refer a young person to our Community Youth Teams, please email [email protected] for a referral form, or complete the request form below.

What happens next?

The referral will be discussed at a multi-agency CYT allocation meeting.  The meeting will decide which agency is most appropriate to offer the support.  If the young person is eligible for support the young person and the referring professional will be notified and the young person will be contacted by a worker to complete an assessment.

Is there a waiting list?

There can be a waiting list but you will receive a letter to inform you of the status of your referral.

What will happen if it is seen as inappropriate referral?

We will inform you of the reasons and offer suggestions of other services that may offer assistance.
