Our Green Commitments

Being an environmentally-friendly organisation is incredibly important to Sheffield Futures; the next generation are facing an increasing burden of dealing with climate crisis which disproportionately affects disadvantaged communities. As an organisation that exists to nurture the next generation, it is imperative that we do our part to protect the environment.

Our commitment to being mindful of our impact is enshrined in our guiding principles. That's why we have worked hard to adhere to our Environmental Handbook - which has secured us another year of Green Mark accreditation!

Green Mark provides an internationally recognised environmental certification for companies that are working within recognised environmental standards. From reducing our paper use to switching to energy-efficient providers, we are constantly looking for ways to improve our standards as an environmentally-conscious organisation.

Here are some of our environmental policies:

  • To comply with, and exceed where practicable, all applicable legislation, regulations and codes of practice.

  • Reduce our carbon footprint, monitor our use of energy, raw materials & waste production whilst increasing biodiversity where opportunities exist.

  • Reduce waste and increase recycling at Star House and when working from home i.e. paper, plastics, toner cartridges.

  • Continually improve our performance by setting progressive environmental targets and monitor progress towards these targets at least quarterly.

  • Report annually on progress against these objectives and targets both internally and externally.

  • Integrate sustainability considerations into all our business decisions e.g. procurement and upgrades to our office building.

  • Encourage staff to reduce travel impact by giving the option to attend meetings virtually and work from home where appropriate, and offering incentives to travel via public transport or bicycle.

  • Ensure that in our daily working practices our staff, contractors, and clients do not carry out any task which may have a disproportionate impact on the environment.

  • Clearly define staff responsibilities and reporting structures regarding environmental management and provide appropriate training.
