In this role in Door 43, you will engage with, and support, young people aged 13-25 to provide an early help offer and improve wellbeing, preventing the effects of life experiences from escalating to more serious mental health problems. In this role, you will utilise a range of engagement skills to work directly with young people, identify their needs and early indicators of future problems, and work with the young person to agree and arrange appropriate support. This may include mental health, emotional wellbeing, sexual health, substance misuse, healthy lifestyle, problems at home or with housing, transitioning between children and adult services, healthy relationships and many more.

You will work with a wide range of other voluntary and statutory services to ensure that the young person receives the most appropriate support from specialist services where required. There will be opportunities to develop brief interventions, activities, and group work with young people. Over time you will become a specialist in working with young people with emotional wellbeing needs and will support the organisation to develop best practice.

Applicants must understand how to engage and support young people who may be experiencing a range of barriers and challenges to their wellbeing. You will hold a minimum of a Level 3 qualification in mental health, youth work, social care or related discipline and will be able to apply evidence based theoretical models and approaches to working with young people. You will blend a youth work skill set and practical support with therapeutic skills such as solution focused motivational interviewing and/or cognitive behavioural informed interventions to effectively support and empower the young person towards independence and improved wellbeing.

As an excellent communicator with a strong degree of initiative who demonstrates and has substantial experience of working with young people and young adults, your understanding of safeguarding vulnerable young people and adults, Child Protection Procedures and referral processes, and health and safety procedures will be excellent. With excellent relationship building and networking skills you will have the ability to relate to groups of young people displaying challenging or risk taking behaviour, along with experience of face to face work with challenging young people and working in a multi-agency setting.
